Bursaries
For nearly all of our students, the greatest challenge they will face in their studies at ESSA is in the area of finances. We have been greatly encouraged over the years by the number of people who have assisted our students - either individually or through organisations. Their help has enabled us to award scholarships to many committed people who would not otherwise have been able to study. We have a bursary committee made up of students and staff which assesses needs and makes awards on an annual basis. In awarding these funds however, we do apply a policy at present that
financial assistance is not usually given to students in their first year of study. The reasons for this policy are threefold:
It gives us a year to assess whether the student is committed to their calling and whether they have the character and gifts necessary for their area of service.
We believe that every theology student should have been sent by a church or organisation who believes in them enough to give sacrificially in support of that student.
We believe that it is important that each student be given the dignity of sharing the cost of their own education, rather than receiving a handout in the form of full sponsorship.
Any queries relating to finances can be addressed to the
Bursary Committee.
