Seminary News
March 2010: Half-Day BookkeeperESSA requires the services of a half-day bookkeeper. We are looking for a qualified Christian person who would regard this post as a ministry, since we are unable to pay a market-related salary. The position would suit a fairly recently retired person.
The requirements are:
- Experience with Pastel (accounts and payroll)
- Books to trial balance
We need to fill the vacancy with immediate effect.
January 2010: Happy New Year
A bit late but finally we managed to have our newsletter "Steps of Faith" available for download. Just click here for the latest newsletter, dated December 2009.
December 2009: Merry Christmas
We wish all viewers of this site, all friends, supporters and members of the ESSA Family a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year 2010.
May God bless us all as we depend on HIM in these things to come.
November 2009: Small Projects List
On 20th of November the final exams had been written and students began to leave for the holidays. As part of the annual "stock-taking" several issues have been noticed by our house-keeper, that need immediate attention before the students return in February 2010. Unfortunately financial needs force the Seminary to focus on expenses with higher priorities. While the Seminary does have projects of more importance, the listed ones will seem more important to most students.
Most
Donors who hear a "call for finances" seem to envision a big sum and
usually believe that the small amount that might be available to the
donor will hardly make any impact. This is different at ESSA.
In the upcoming months and years, we will publish a number of "Small-Projects"
which are desperately needed at ESSA.
The overall amount needed will normally not exceed 2.000 ZAR (200 US $).

June 2009: Second year field work experience!
This month, our second year students journeyed up the highway from here in Pietermaritzburg to Bergville, KZN, South Africa. There, they ministered with Philakahle, a local initiative supporting the church and individuals responding to community needs, including rural poverty and the AIDS pandemic. ESSA's students went house to house with Philakahle staff members and local home-based caregivers, offering hope from the Bible and praying with people in hard situations.

13 May 2009: Week of revival and prayer meetings
There
is a theme of renewed motivation to prayer among both students and
staff at ESSA. A student-initiated prayer meeting that began in 2008 as
a once-a-week one-hour meeting has recently grown to biweekly prayer
meetings plus a Friday evening two-hour prayer meeting from 10pm to
midnight, with many students voluntarily attending. During the week of
18 May ESSA students and staff are also taking time out each day for
prayer meetings focusing on revival. Join us in praying for the Holy
Spirit to move on this campus!
February 2009: Welcome Dr. Ilori!
We
joyfully introduce our new principal, Dr. Joseph Ilori! He brings
phenomenal experience, including years as a pastor, extensive
publishing credits, and a decade as an academic dean and then principal
of the Nigerian Baptist Seminary, the largest seminary in the continent
of Africa. Needless to say, we are thrilled that God has brought him to
ESSA.
3 October 2008: Magazine highlights ESSA students and staff
ESSA
student Naveed Iqbal and ESSA lecturers Adam and Christine Jeske were
profiled in the October 2008 issue of Christian
Living Today.
Sept 2008: Welcome to new faces, farewell to old friends
These
are days of many changes in our staff, with a nearly entirely new
administration and teaching staff in 2008, heading into 2009. We have
faith that God is making something new here, drawing on our rich
history, but stepping into fresh, deep work for God's kingdom and glory.
2006: A
final photo of the library building construction
We're happy to have the library in operation! Praise God for all the work and generosity or time and resources that went into this building. It will be well used.
